Dan Aykroyd Hopes Ghostbusters 3 Production Will Start 'In the Spring'

As it turns out, the best place to get Dan Aykroyd to discuss the possibility of Ghostbusters 3 is on the radio. Like the he did previously on Chicago’s WGN radio last November, Aykroyd decided to fan the Ghostbusters flames over the air, this time with Dennis Miller. So! Is the mythical third film happening? Is Bill Murray going to appear? Who will star as the young Ghostbusters? What happened to the original Ghostbusters? Said the erstwhile Ray Stantz to Miller: Yes, we will be doing the movie, and hopefully with Mr. Murray. That is our hope. We have an excellent script, and what we have to remember is that ‘Ghostbusters’ is bigger than any one component. Although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and all of us — Sigourney [Weaver]. The concept is much bigger than any individual role, and the promise of ‘Ghostbusters 3’ is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood, because my character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can’t drive the cadillac; he’s got a bad knee and can’t pick up the pack. Harold is too big — Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood, and that’s the promise. We’re gonna hand it to a new generation. […] We’ll be in production in the spring, I hope. As for what actors will make up that “new generation,” no one is cast just yet — no kidding — but Aykroyd made special mention of Criminal Minds star Matthew Gray Gubler; the Ghostbusters 3 casting additions will include three actors and one actress. None of this is official, of course — least of all, Murray’s participation. “Yeah, Ivan wants to make it and I… I owe him, ya know,” Murray told Howard Stern in February. “He’s puzzled that I haven’t gotten to this [script]. […] Well, I’ll get to it. I gotta get to it. I feel bad. I got a message and I think people — I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. It’s not the foremost thing in my mind, so I don’t think about it. You know, the studio gets excited every 10 years or so.” This concludes your Ghostbusters 3 update for the day; see you in a few months! · ‘Ghostbusters 3’ is a Go for 2012’ [Dennis Miller Show via Coming Soon]

Bryan Cranston Aims To Direct Home Again

He's writing the script, too.... Though this latest story might have you thinking that the site is slowly morphing into the Bryan Cranston Fan Zone ("Cran-ing in more Cranston news than anyone since 2009!"), bear with us. Because not content with doing sterling work on US TV drama Breaking Bad and snagging roles in a batch of some of the more exciting movies either about to hit cinemas or on the way, he's now looking to return to the director's chair for an adaptation of David Wiltse's novel Home Again. And who has written the script? Why, one Bryan Cranston! It's not really such a big shot when you consider that he wrote, directed and produced a film back in 1999 called Last Chance. And the fact that he's been honing his megaphone skills via episodes of both his old show, Malcolm in the Middle and current telly gig Breaking Bad. According to the actor, he's planning to change the book's title as he develops the script. And he outlined the plot in a chat with Hollywood. com: It's basically a very strong father-son story, and a murder-mystery. An FBI agent who suddenly quits the department and takes his son and his wife and moves back to his hometown of Cascade, Nebraska, to rekindle family values and pay attention now. He's been working for the FBI for years, so he's been home sporadically. And his son is now sixteen, very sensitive, and looks upon his father like sort of a stranger... And then there's a murder that happens in the little town that they move to, which kills the father's whole stance on, 'Things are better in these small towns!' And then things unravel, and basically, the father and son come together at the end and save each other emotionally and literally. "There's no word on when he might get started shooting, since his schedule is fairly packed right now. But apparently he's hoping to get things moving next year.

Morena Baccarin Leaving V & Her Short Haircut Behind For Homeland

By Jolie LashBEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Morena Baccarin is leaving those human-skinned aliens of V behind and heading to Homeland on Showtime this October. Its nice to be human again and play emotions and to have a lot going on emotionally, Morena told Access Hollywood after Showtimes Homeland panel at the Television Critics Association Summer Session 2011 in Beverly Hills on Thursday. In Homeland, Morena stars as Jessica Brody, wife to Scott Brody (Damian Lewis), a military man who is rescued after being an Al Qaida prisoner of war for eight years, long after everyone thought he had been killed, and after her character has moved on with a new lover. It gets very intense, Morena said of her upcoming story line, which finds her husband starting out unaware of her new relationship. And you cant blame her [her husband Scott] was gone for eight years and at a certain point you have to assume hes dead. And just as she was putting that behind her, he comes home, so its just a really impossible situation for everybody and it gets really intense. While her short, Audrey Hepburn-esque crop was a trademark of her V character, alien leader Anna, Morena has a softer, chin-length do for Homeland thanks to a wig, and the actress confirmed shes ready to leave her short haircut behind in her own life. Im growing it out, yeah, she said. Im just ready for a change. This woman is a very different woman from Anna and I felt it was very important for me to play this character to morph into something else and the hair was a part of that, Morena added. The role also sees the actress playing a mother of two children whose lives are rocked when their presumed-dead father comes home. I did have a daughter on V, even though [in real life] she was five years younger than I was and a lot of incubated babies. Its really fun, its very grounding, its different, Morena said of playing a military wife and mother. I dont have kids of my own, but I think any woman can imagine having children. Its really nice Its very real and its very grounded in the home stories of these characters. I think that adds to the heartbreak aspect of this man being gone for eight years. The show also reunites Morena with Claire Danes (who plays CIA agent Carrie Anderson), her former junior high classmate. We were in the same homeroom and we were together for about a year, a year in a half, she said. As for what she remembers about a pre-teen Claire? I remember she had orange hair or pink hair at one point after shed got back from doing [the] My So Called Life pilot and [we] were just [recently] bonding over the fact that we had the same bully in junior high, she laughed. Homeland premieres on Showtime on Sunday October 2 at 10 PM ET/PT following the return of Dexter. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. Universal Won't Play Clue

But Gore Verbinski will keep the game onIf we were a director or producer developing a project at Universal right now, we'd probably be feeling extremely nervous. Because following on from the company putting Guillermo del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness on hold and backing out of Ron Howard's plans to adapt the Dark Tower series comes word that the studio is dropping Hasbro murder mystery game property Clue, which has Gore Verbinski overseeing its slow - slower now - progress to the screen. Okay, so it's not exactly on the same level as those others, but it was part of the big deal Universal made with toy giant Hasbro to turn some of its games into movies, the same deal that is bringing the world Battleship and Candy Land, among others. And this latest development does not mean that Clue is now a corpse lying on a rug with blood flowing from knife wounds. Verbinski and the Hasbro team are holding on to the rights and are free to take it elsewhere. They've also attached two writers to work on the script a little more, with Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama aboard. The scripting pair has worked on a draft of the new Flash Gordon for Sony and are in the middle of working over Dracula Year Zero, for Universal itself, finding ways to trim the budget flesh on that one...
